Hi-I've heard it will fry your camera. I have 3 Vivitar 285HVs(and also the Canon 580EX II's) with the Canon 40D's and use it with the ebay pocket wizards.Never on camera with the Vivitars though.
I wouldn't judge the sensor / processor etc.. by a sample test image probably shot in JPEG mode and not processed properly. The same image shot in RAW mode and processed with reasonably tame chroma and noise settings would probably have been fine. I have come to the conclusion that Canon has the first idiot that shows up in the morning shooting these test images. Jeez! Couldn't they find better subject matter! At least throw some color or a nipple at us to make it interesting!
The fix for my win Vista VLUT override problem came with the updated version of my calibration software. I had been using a shortcut to the VLUT loader after complete start-up. Checking for the latest updates to your calibration program might solve the problem. Let me know if a newer version of your cali. software restores the vluts correct load order.
I agree that the new technology is a boon to the photographer, but many people don't realize that it is also a boon to the fine artist (and not just because it makes our jobs easier when photographing our own work). Just like traditional printmaking techniques became the province of the fine artist, I believe that film will as well (in fact, I've seen a lot of this in play already). The great thing about a new technology replacing an older one is that it frees that older technology up from the constraints and perceptions that were once pinned to it. I'm looking forward to the wonderful things that fine artists will do with traditional film in the coming years.
We are using a rented version of this camera, while we have been eagerly awaiting our purchased one. All I can say is unbelievable! The ability to shoot in 5k from a handheld camera is just mind blowing.
For the past two years we have been shooting with the Panasonic AJ-HDX900, which is a DVCPro HD setup with a 25k starting price. I can say that the red blows this one away. Not only in resolution but in color quality, accessories and so on.
I agree with you 110%. Too many people are giving their work away for free and now everyone expects it! I see it most with people who have good paying daytime jobs that can afford an expensive, professional camera and want nothing more to take some shots for fun and don't mind giving them away because they already have a way to put food on the table. I guess it will take some education to show these individuals that they too could be making a lot of money (or extra money) if they just took some time to say no to free and just put a price tag on their work. Time is worth something ... isn't it?
Yep very similar. Brand new Sony Vio running Vista. Photoshop CS2 is installed but I use a Spyder2 and ColorPlus 1.1 to callibrate my screen. Disabled Adobe Gamma in "Startup" and find that my Colorplus profile (which makes my screen look perfect) randomly gets unloaded and sends me back to my washed out screen. Bizarrely, if I go into the control panel and click on the Adobe Gamma Wizard and open it (without changing anything) it reloads the ColorPlus profile. I try to reload the profile using your suggested method and it works for a short while but then without explanation the the screen switches back again. Any ideas - before I chuck a brick through my screen:-(
Supposedly Pocket Wizard has their ETTL Radio version coming out shortly and you wont have to use Tape and stuff like you do on the RP.
We shall see! Also in the works is Quantums which was always the best anyway. I think they were all waiting to see what the Radio Popper looked like and how it functioned. Come to find out, its a bit cumbersome.
I guess we won't know anything certain about image quality until someone puts the 450D through its paces using some decent optics. No more Kit-Lens BS. I want to see images from some high end glass!
I have used a Rebel Xt to shoot the majority of my print jobs. I have a 16 megapixel available at the studio and I still use the XT on most location shoots.
The New Xsi will have larger file size, better color, less noise, not to mention a huge lcd screen that the 16 mp camera does not.
Its going to be a great camera/
Don't forget to get the battery Grip!
